Inon Z-220 compatibility

  1. Hi,

Read in Inon America website about Z-220:

"Note: Z-220 Focus Light and Target Laser designed for use with film camera systems having Nikonos TTL circuitry. Focus Light and Target Laser will not function properly on most digital camera systems"

What does it mean exactly? Focus Light and target Laser not working at all?.. or just in some cases?

    Thanks

    Matetes

  2. Hi ,

the main problem is how the Camera´s cirquits are designed. The Inon z 220 needs a about 100 K ohm resistor between Trigger and SP to aktivate the Light and if the strobe is triggerd the line fades and the light went of after returning to high it will rise up again ....... This resistor is incloudet in the DA2 and also in the connectors of the Oly TTL-C converters of mike-dive, by the way this resistor is also needed for the Sea and Sea Nikonos strobes to activate their ready line for the power supply to the DA2 and the Oly TTL-C3 converter......The Sea plug versions need a trick to get the power from the trigger line.

The Inon z220 works on analog Nikonos cameras and is designed for this and on the full kompatible cams but not for others .......

  3. Thanks, but....

I'm trying to understand.... Will the Z-220 work with D70 (manual, of course)?

    And will the Focus Light?

    Thanks

  4. The Z220 works with your D70 in manual mode. Basically only 2 lines are required (simple trigger).

As described by mike focus light requires the 100kOhm resistor between two pins on the bulkhead. soldering-iron and 2 minutes time - that's it.

I don't know what kind of wiring your housing features. I've ordered my Sealux housing with open wires. To avoid any trouble I have just connected the required two lines from the hotshoe and installed the resistor accordingly.

This is how it works with a Nikonos type camera:

Z220 focus light is activated when the trigger is pressed halfway down. It turns off again after some time (appr. 10 seconds / when the viewfinder information dissapears - camera controls the focus light) or when the trigger is pushed down for exposure.

The way it is described above (100kOhm resistor):

focus light is turned on as soon as you have selected the appropiate mode on the Z220's selection wheel (operating mode with focus light). No automatic quench after some time as it is provided with a Nikonos type camera.

I use dual Z220 on manual and I am quiet confident I don't have to reactivate the focus light roughly every 10 seconds. I prefer them to stay on as long as I have selected them to on.

    Hope that helps.

    regards,

    Julian

  5. Check out this thread by doing a search for:

    Inon Z220S & dual bulkheads??

It has some information about various Inon Z220 configurations.

  6. Hi Matetes

If it's any help, I use a pair of 220s with my Nikon D100 and Subal D10 housing. I have one with the focussing light/laser and one without.

I had to make sure that the strobe connectors used only 3 of the 5 available wiring pins in the housing on each of the two bulkheads. But this was an easy thing to do involving turning a plug around. No big deal.

My 220 now lights the subject with either or both laser or focussing light. Its an amazing system especially in low light or night phootgraphy.
