Titan D100 using 10.5 fisheye

  1. Hi folks,

Anyone know what the optimal port/extension ring combo (if any) should be when used with Nikon's 10.5 DX lens behind Light & Motion's 8 inch dome? I am shooting the Titan D100 housing by L&M and am getting ready to play with the 10.5 underwater.

    Thank you.

    Joe

  2. Light & Motion's dome vignettes, and is not usable.

I suggest Subal's FE-2 or Sea & Sea's NX Fisheye Dome, no extension, w/ LMI port converters.

  3. Hey Joe,

Have fun with 10.5. I'm sure you will get some great shots. I thought I was going to bump into the subjects but it was still not close enough. I still like the diver one.

  4. I'd agree Ryan's advice. I use Subal's FE and FE2 glass ports. But I have to say that I have seen many great images taken with the cheaper acryllic Sea and Sea dome.

Both will do a good job.

You are going love that lens - I could shoot in the ocean without the 10.5mm.

  5. What's the difference between the FE and the FE2 Subal dome? I cannot find any retailer selling just an "FE" only the FE2 for $1135. I just got an FE2 (I think) from UW phototech. I haven't opened the box yet but I just asked for Subals FE port and hope I got the right one.

  6. The FE dome was Subal's original fisheye dome port - which they stopped making in 2000. The FE2 is their newer dome port. Both are 8" domes - but the FE2 is not as curved. Apparently the FE2 is optically better than the FE - although I have never seen a test. I have both.

Also the shades on the FE2 stick out further than the glass - which is a helpful when working with the dome - downloading pix etc.

  7. Hi Alex,

Thanks for the reply. Do you use an extension ring with your 10.5? And I assume you are using a 50mm ring for the 12-24?

    Thank you.

    Joe

  8. The FE was 8". I believe the FE2 is a 9" dome. Subal refered me to Backscatter which recommends using the FE2 without an ext. ring for the 10.5

  9. Yep, the 10.5 mm lens needs no extension; but the 12-24 needs a 50mm extension. If its any use, the 18-70 needs a 20mm extension.
