Turks and Caicos Advanced Photo Instruction?

6 posts
  1. Any good dive operators/photo schools on Turks and Caicos?

We are planning a trip to Beaches this fall. Looking for a good combo between kid friendly and great diving. Snorkelling for my wife and I and great beaches for the kids. Where the diving is just offshore so I can get my 2-tank fix and spend time with the kids.

Any good operators that offer advanced training, and small groups so I can get the most out of a pro system?

Any experience with the dive operator at Beaches? How about Tropical Imaging?

  2. Hello,

About the diving at Beaches I can spend hours talking about it but I will be short. I worked there as a diving instructor for over two years, it is great for families and diving is included ( not night dives ) but you won't be able to do any shore diving, the dive shop won't let you any tanks for shore diving because the closest reef is about 15 mint. from the resort.

If you are planing to take photos I won't personally recomend you to dive with Beaches, the reason of this is beacuse you won't be able to do dives longer than 30 min. and you will have to dive with groups up to 10 divers.

If you really want to take photos and enjoy longer dives without the pressure to be back after 30 min dives I will really recomend you to book with Provo Turtle Divers, the owner is an underwater photographer and he understand the needs of photographers.

About Tropical Imaging I am one of their photographers, but the only thing we do about diving is rent underwater cameras and do private and group videos ,we specialize in wedding and family photography.

  3. Thanks David!

Since it sounds like I wouldn't get much out of the dive trips that are included with the room, is there somewhere else that you can recommend to stay? The all-inclusive family atmosphere seems nice. I've found that when staying at an all-inclusive I can spend more time on the beach and diving rather than in supermarkets and shuttling between restaraunts when I stay in a condo or hotel. I don't go there to eat anyway. Eat to live not live to eat.

Will Provo Turtle Divers pick you up at Beaches? Do they offer any advanced instruction?

    Thanks!

  4. I think Beaches Resort is great for kids and families and you will have a lots of things to do, but if you are thinking about relax dives with long bottom times I will dive with any other Provo dive operations. If you book with Provo Turtle Divers they will pick you up at Beaches or any other hotel you stay.

I normally dive with Provo Turtle Divers , I am and underwater photographer and I really enjoy to be with them because they understand my needs.

I will recomend you to stay at Beaches but to dive with someone else because that will be cheaper than stay in a condo and spend a lots of money in the local restaurants.

  5. I've been to Turks and Caicos twice and both times I dived with Dive Provo (@ Ports of Calls). The last trip was just 3 weeks ago.

I have very good experiance diving with the Dive Provo team, but I recommend to have a dive buddy who does photos as well. The dive groups are smaller than 13 people (that was the one day max. out of 2 weeks) and usually they split up into different teams.

We stayed at the comfort suites next to the dive center. The hotel is a 5 min walk to the beach across the road. That was enough for us, but if you need more comprehensive facility then the beaches or British West Indies Resort or Ocean Club West or The Sands are higher in class (and price).

I like the ports of calls location as there are many restaurants (all price levels) in walking distance nearby.

Dive Provo has two busses where they pick up the people from the hotels.

I had a good time and would like to go back soon. I envy David who lives there.... ;-)

    Greetings,

    Chris

  6. Please check the forum description before you post. This will get much more interest in "The Galley."

    I'll move it there.
