I just upgraded to the Ikelite D100 housing from my CP5K. I'll be using dual Ikelite DS-125's and I'm in a lens and weight quandry.
I bought Ikelite ports for the 17-35 F2.8 and for the 105 F2.8. I just ordered the Nikon 10.5 and it's port.
My question, which 2 of these 3 should I schlepp on a dive trip or should I just bite the bullet and take em' all?
Second question- should I use a dual cord setup on the strobes or run 1 with a slave? B)
Thanks and love this forum. Y'all are incredible!
Hi,
Shoot, I'm sure you'll be happy with the 105 so DEFINITELY bring that. Of the other two, the 10.5 is TOO wide for most subjects and the 17-35 isn't wide enough...:-( I know it sounds radical, but have you considered trading in the 17-35 for the 12-24DX?
Cheers
James
1. Use the dual sync cord, set the DS 125 strobes to 1/2 power and blaze away.
2. As for wide lenses, I have the Nikon 10.5, the Sigma 15, and the 12-24. Of the three my favorite is the 10.5 or the 15. I haven't used the 12-24 in ages.

Doesn't life suck! Take them ALL. You know you'll only regret it if you don't. And what's the point in having them if you don't take them? Besides, how will airlines ever make a profit if they can't charge excess baggage fees to divers? And then buy the Nikkor 12-24. You know it makes sense. I get cracking images with mine.
I definitely vote the the 12-24. Also bring your macro lens. I felt that the 17-35 wasn't wide enough for the D100 underwater. I traded mine in for a 17-55 which is just as sharp and much more versatile a lens on a 1.5x crop camera
It all really depends upon your dive conditions and photographic interests. But I would bring the above so I would be ready for WA and Macro. Now if you are going to shoot leafy seadragons the 17-35 would be perfect.
I would add Ike's manual controller. A lot easier to use for wide angle than the strobe controls.
I carried more than that on my last trip with a 50 lbs per bag limit and didn't pay excess baggage fees.
