Teleconverters which brands??

4 posts
  1. I'm shooting a subal with nikon f/5. Was thinking 2X converter for my 60+105 and if I get it a 200 macro.

I've read some on pros and cons. Nikon makes a manual one as well as Nikon TC-20E-II Teleconverter for auto focus. What about other brands? I use manual focus the most with these lens. so maybe the tc-201 2x. Any opinions?? Mark

  2. I use the TC-17E-II top side with my Nikon 70-200mm VR lens as do many others. And based on my reading, the newer TC-14E-II andTC-17E-II seem to work better for most users than the older TC-20E-II.

That said, you might what to check out the following forum.

  3. The Kenko Pro "Teleplus" converters are very popular with Wetpixel users. They are a lot less expensive than Nikon and perform very well.

  4. I have a Kenko 2X ("Pro" model; 7 elements in 2 groups) which I use with a Nik 80-200 and some other lenses. Build quality is decent, images look okay (but I'm still evaluating, only had it a few weeks), and AF lenses work without modification or too much slowdown as long as they are optically fast (2.8 or better). No experience with AF-S teleconverters. The Kenko 2X is available for about US$160 from discounters.

    All the best,

    Chris
