D-2000 as Slave

4 posts
  1. Hi Guys,

I try to figur out if the Inon D-2000 works as a slave with a D100/SB800 combination.

I got the information that the strobe slave-sensor is at the bottom, but I don't know if a optical cable is required to fire it. I try to get around the optical bulkhead converter.

Manual slave function would do. Can it ignore pre-flash?

    Thanks in advance

    Torben

  2. Hi Torben,

I don't know the answer. But my feeling is that it won't be able to ignore the pre-flash because the SB800 doesn't just produce a single pre-flash, but a series of pre-flashes.

    Others may know different.

Also if the SB800 ignores the preflash but fires during the main exposure it will over expose the final image - because the TTL of the SB800 will have decided on the correct exposure without knowing that the D2000 is there (and about to fire too).

  3. I agree with Alex. I know the D-2000 is designed to mimic a consumer digicam's preflash and main flash. But an iTTL unit puts out a series of preflashes - not just one - so the D-2000 might not be able to keep up.

    Cheers

  4. Thanks for your answers,

I just talked to Dan of Ocean Optics in London.

They'll have a chance to test this combination in a couple of days.

According to Dan, most of the consumer cameras have also a series of pre-flashes.

I'm looking forward to the results...

    I"ll keep you posted!

    Cheers Torben
