Final Camera Decision

  1. I'm looking to get into digital underwater and would eventually like to get a nice rig. I'm getting a 20D for land use and I already have a Sony F-707 that I'll probably sell soon for more gear. I'll be using this for sailing in rough conditions/wet cats and snorkel/shallow freediving to no more than 30 ft and maybe some hookah diving to the same depths.

So, I have it narrowed down to an Olympus Stylus 500 + pt-026 or Coolpix 5400 + ewa marine bag for about the same price. Or would I be better off if I just put the sony in a bag, pray(alot) and wait until I can afford a c-7070 + pt-027.

I hate that the Stylus has no manual controls so I'll probably get the updrage itch quickly. The Coolpix 5400 seems to have a decent upgrade path and the price is good so I won't cry when it floods but the lag and image noise are worriesome. The 20D is a big hit on available funds but I could wait for the 7070 if that would be a considerably better setup.

Any advice will be greatly Appreciated and I hope this is coherent/enough information/not too much information.
