Akumal for photographers?

  1. Have any of you been diving out of Akumal Mexico? I am espically interested in hearing about both shore diving options and reef sites you might have been too that did not have to be operated as drift dives. Comments?

  2. I worked on a conservation trip there a few years back. All of the dives we did were drift dives, except the caverns (of course). Only shore diving I did was right off the beach in 8 feet of water. The reef was offshore aways. I was thrilled with it at the time as I had just got my first camera: lots of anemone shrimp as I recall. I'm sure now I wouldn't be as impressed. I do remember thinking my second week in Cozumel was better diving.

    Cheers,

  3. i was there about a year ago, stayed toward the south end at akumel adventuras. it is easy to get to the ruins at Tulum from there.

i thought the diving was great. it was virtually right off the beach. very healthy, vibrant stands of coral and lots of schools of fish. not a lot of big fish and no wall diving. here is a link to my photos:

  4. Elliot,

So...were you all drift diving or at anchor? What sort of depth profiles were you logging when shooting your picutres?
