Which Canon lens work with 8" dome?

9 posts
  1. Is there a list of Canon lenses that work with the new 8" dome? Seems like it may work with a few choice possibilities- I'm shooting a 20D , and this port may save space & money...... (ike housing)(aquatica housing)...

    Thank-you all for responce....

  2. Hi Marty,

Just about any lens can be used behind an 8" dome. What really matters is which extension ring you use.

I know the 10-22 and the 15mm Sigma will work with the dome and the same ring. Longer lenses will require longer rings, but I can see the lens also working with the 18-55, 17-85, 24-85, 24-70, and other popular Canon lenses. The 20mm and 24mm fixed primes will probably also work.

The only lens that doesn't work now is Nikon's 10.5mm and I think Ike is working on a way to adapt the dome to this short lens as well as he says: "Mounting system placing the dome closer to the housing will also be offered."

    Cheers

  3. I have all the scuba bucks saved up for the dome all I'm waiting for is to see how this will be implemented. If it takes a re-design of the dome to accomidate the 10.5 I don't want to be stuck with one that doesn't work. It sounds like from users here that its not simply a matter of getting an extension ring short enough. I just hope that whatever changes are necessary for the 10.5 it will still allow you to use extension rings to get the 15mm and 12-24mm.

This port, the extension rings and the 105mm M/A port would be a truly awesome travel kit.

  4. Hi guys, just got the Aquatica 8" dome conversion for the Ikelite housings, this version of the dome is of a different design, allowing for a closer placement of the dome to the housing, this then allows the fisheyes lenses to be used. I will be diving with a Ikelite D70 housing and the 10.5mm fisheye on the 05/05/05, will post picture ASAP, meanwhile I enclose pictures of the rig in it's dry mode :)

This set up should allow Canon user to use the 15mm fisheye as well as some ultra wide (weitwinkel) lenses either Canon or Nikon

    Regards
