I really like this shot

8 posts
  1. So i was messing around today with a 105 and was finding a lot, decided to try something diff with some anemone fish, get the blue background etc. Shot about 50 shots, little buggers were moving around a lot becus of a nice current.

Lots of out of focus and some blurry, but this one came out as a ringer! Unfortunately my right strobe hadn't recharged in time but it still works rather nicely if you ask me.

This is full frame, no cropping whatsoever.

    Thoughts?

Really starting to like this whole macro idea after soo many years of strictly WA

  2. I do like the shot .. and being a guy who loves messing around with his one strobe I can say I agree with you on the lighting from it really working .. however .. i looked and there was something i didn't like ... took me a while but the only thing i can come up with is the colour of the blue ..

i thought at first it was just too paley torqousie .. but i think it is more the uniformity of the blue ... just looks almost fake. i like taking shots like that with my 100 makes fish seem to ping out at ya more.

  3. Aha, i see you are still online...ya it does look a little weird i agree, actually due to the really crappy viz and soupy water today. Too bad it wasn't a nice clear outer reef dive. Good luck me getting one of them to open the mouth like that again though...

  4. yeh the mouth open adds some nice action to the shot ..

.. i am online just very busy with other people stuff right now .. soon have more time for myself but i am always watchfull :)

do you use breeze browser to watermark ?

I have been trying to do it and it just doesn't seem to work .. i have made a PNG file (which is already partially transparent but no luck when adding it .. it's a real pain ..)

I was wondering if you used breeze browser to do it and what sort of file you were using .. or is it that i haven't bought BB that means it won't add them .. i want to get away from using gallery software on my site and control my galleries by myself again .. i end up using way to much webspace with gallery software i have decided .. although i never tried singapore or minigal ...

    anyway .. still a nice shot ..

  5. Actually, just using Photoshop for the watermark.

Put the text the size and place you want, then go to Layer options and use the slider to make transparent. Then just flatten the image.

You can make an automated action from that as well, problem is it screws up the text sometimes when doing that...but an M and V mixed together still works....

  6. Yes, I do like the pic, maybe water is a bit pale, but anyway I think the fish has an attractive point of view and the open mouth....wow!!!! I'ts so difficult to shoot just in that moment! Good job

  7. Like it. As we have discussed before I am also a big fan of blue background macro and take a similar approach of shooting several frames and then deleting the blurry ones. Its a good way to exploit the digital technology.

There are many ways to deal with the water colour. But for a quick fix try opening in PS, CNTRL+U, then CNTRL+4 and increase CYAN hue to say +4 (note how I translated the Apple buttons to CNTRLs here!).

  8. Ana- thanks for all of th comments on the photos i have up in this section. I see you have been busy!

Alex- shortcuts on PS? i will try it and have a look, thanks.

and yes i am using a PC, how'd you know?

Anyhoo, as for blue backgrouns, i have a little something in that realm coming out very soon, stay tuned!
