dx-5000 For Coolpix 5000

  1. I an looking at the sea&sea dx-5000 underwater housing for the coolpix 5000 camera (not the new housing that just came out). I was wondering if anybody knows anything about this housing? Does it accomidate any of the newer coolpix cameras with higher megabites? If you have used it how well did it work..any problems ect. If you want to email me you can at aquamanj@aol.com or respond to this thread here.

    thanks joe

  2. It works with the Nikon Coolpix 5000 only. It's a well made housing that performs well, but the write speed on the CP5000 is very slow especially in RAW mode.

  3. One thing about this housing that is really excellent is that they make a huge dome port for use with the Coolpix fisheye lens. One wetpixel user used this rig to make ipix panoramas underwater that were super-cool.

  4. Overall, this housing is good.

The housing cannot control the on/off of the camera.

One big problem I found recently is that the CP5000 "hang" after taking 2xx photos. It happened once underwater and once on land with two CP5000 of the same firmware v1.8. Switch off and on the camera again solved the problem. I have no idea why that'd happen. Maybe I should file a question to Nikon.

When buying the housing, be sure to check the hot-shoe to 5-pin N port cable has all 5 pins linked! One of my friends who owned a DX-5000 some years ago only got 2 pins linked (Trigger and Ground). That makes TTL not possible.

Taking RAW seems impossible. My Sandisk Ultra II 2GB takes 14seconds for one RAW image!

The battery can last for two dives.
