I would like to know if anyone has used underwater the Nikkor 50mm 1.4D with a Nikon DSLR ? I am thinking to try this lens with my nikon D100 for fish portraits but I would like to know if someone has any experience with it.
Thanks

Hi David,
At this focal length, the 60mm Micro lens is much more popular because it focuses closer. The 50mm 1.4 is a portrait lens designed for work in the studio where the subject is >3 feet away. Check the minimum focusing distance on the 50mm 1.4 and see if it's sufficient for you - if not, you may want to try it w/ a diopter. Me - I'd use the 60mm Micro.

The only advantage I can think of for the 50mm 1.4 over the 60 micro might be the ability to throw the background out of focus with its very shallow DOF. However, given the difficulties in focusing on moving subjects like fish, I'm not sure this would be any advantage at all. The reality is you'll probably be using either lens at at least 5.6 and probably smaller apertures. Any reason why you wouldn't just use the 60?
