Ikelite leaking viewfinder on 20D housing

  1. I have seen a couple of references to this problem and I experienced it on mine in Bonaire.

First, on another forum, Ike indicated that they have isolated a problem and have a fix. I'm sending mine in soon.

Second, there are multiple chambers in the viewfinder, but the water will eventually migrate to the inside of the housing, so be cautious if it starts fogging or leaking. I took mine apart in Bonaire, cleaned and lubed the o-rings, and got it to stop leaking for the remainder of the trip. It's a pain to reassemble, but can be done.

  2. We have had people wash their housing back. The problem is these viewfinders are NOT waterproof from the inside. Some of the ouside glass pieces were too thin on the last batch we received, causing the occasional sealing problem you heard about. We can forward a replacement finder if you don't want to return the housing for us to install.

  3. Thanks Ike. I was just going to send the viewfinder itself. I just didn't want anyone to assume it wouldn't ultimately migrate into the housing, even though it takes awhile.
