TTL Options - Olympus 5060/5050

  1. In preperation for my upcoming 2 weeks in BVI on a sailing / diving trip, I need to make a TTL decision. I trust my photography skills, but I am new to diving, and this will be my first diving trip.

Here is what I have for equipment:

Oly 5060 with the PT-020 Case

Oly 5050 with the PT-015 Case

    Sea & Sea YS120TTL Duo

Sea & Sea Type S Sync Cords

I plan on bringing both housings / cameras so I'll have a back-up if something breaks. I'll probably sell one of the cameras / housings after the trip. I want to focus on enjoying the diving, controlling my bouyancy, and not on fussing with my camera on every shot, that is why I'm leaning towards TTL.

It doesn't look like Henrich's IR adapter is still available and is listed as discontinued:

    http://www.heinrichsweikamp.net/blitz/indexe.htm

The advantage is that I could use that with either housing / camera.

I've looked at the Mike Dive site, but the web-translaters leave a lot to be desired, which makes understanding what he offers very confusing:

I'm assuming that I would need a converter to go from the 5060 hotshoe to the PT-020 bulkhead (inside). Then a cable to go from the bulkhead (outside) to the converter. Then another cable to go from the converter to the strobe. Correct?

Has anyone in the US actually purchased the 5060/PT-020 set-up from Mike? I'd like to hear exactly what you purchased, how much you paid etc.?

My other option is to just shoot in manual.

    Thanks,

    Glenn

  2. Hi,

I use an older version of this:

    http://www.mike-dive.de/images/olympus-ttl...ly-nik-c3-1.jpg

It works very well for me! (Don't live in the US, but not in Germany either.)

As far as I can sea the YS-120 is listed as one of the preferred options at the HeinrichsWeikamp web site.

It will only work for your PT-020, and you will need to get a Nikonos cord för your strobe.

You can call HeinrichsWeikamp and/or MikeDive. They speak english.

  3. Hi all

@ wake74 , no problem I have still some Oly TTL IR for special orders and a solution for your PT20 too

Oly TTL IR for Pt 15 as an S ( Sea Plug solution )

Oly TTL C3 for PT20 as the mono S solution

so you are able to use the strobe with both housings after the decision which you want to use further you are able to sell one of them independently

If you are deciding to change to the Nikonos synccord you can get the :

Oly TTL IR / N ( Nikonos plug solution ) and

Oly/ Nikonos change socket for the PT20 incl the TTL C3 converter as shown at the

    pic linked from apete

I prefer the last option to get away from the trouble about the weak Oly socket

but it is also posible to do this modifikation ( pt 20 ) later on

an other solution is to drill the PT 15/ PT10 / PT18 ( done 15 times ) and mount the Oly/ Niconos socket but this I do only if I have the housing here ( there must be several changes to the converter wireing and to the spring pinns too ( not enough space on top of the cam inside the housing ) The Oly/Niconos Socket also fitts in the Ikelite housings ( if wall thicknes is less then 10 mm )

    Michael ( mikedive )

  4. Thanks for both responses.
