First day with my new strobe!

8 posts
  1. Hi! I've just purchased a strobe - the only one I've ever had - and last sunday I used it fot the firs time during a pair of dives we made here in Tenerife.

It's an Ikelite DS-125 witn Manual Controller (not TTL). It's a bit difficult to manage with a new element, so many power settings, so many different positions for the arm...and get good results with a correct lightning, but this is only the beginnig, I hope to improve as soon as possible with patience and effort.

Theese are the pics of my first experience witn an external strobe, I want to share them with you, thanks for taking a look

Black damsel, a very common fish in Canary Islands, it lives by rocky bottoms:

White damsel: quite similar to black one but with a golden brown color:

    Ornate Wrasse (Thalassoma Pavo)

    Sharpnose Puffer:

    And that's all, thank you!

  2. It looks like you're getting the hang of it Ana. I like the way you've mixed the strobe and background exposure in the last photo to get a rich blue background - good stuff!

    Cheers

  3. Nice job Anna.....you'll only improve and this is a great start

I especially like the color markings on the ornate wrasse and the composition of the sharpnose puffer with the blue beyond.....well done

  4. I really like the Sharpnose Puffer. It's a hard subject to photograph, and for the looks of the pic, you are already getting the hang of your new strobe. Nice job!

    David.

  5. Thanks for your comments! :o Now, there's a long way to go form me, but I hopr to see a bit of improvement soon.

    Regards!

  6. the puffer shot is great... great composition, colors, and expression on the fish's face...

  7. Well, that puffers are pretty expresive, specially at night dives, they lay on a stone, sleep with the eyes open, and in this situation their faces look like a baby face, puffers at night are nice subjects to shoot, you can get lovely scenes of it.

During the day, as Ponsui says, they're hard to photograph when swimming in the blue, but is not the most difficult fish here, wrasses are even harder, too nervous, too fast in swimming, this wrasse you see here is one of the few I have got.

    Thank you :o

  8. Great photos Ana !

There are all excellent captures, my favorite one is the pofferfish.Congratulations for such a nice work and enjoy your new strobe.

    Saludos
