Sorry Another Question

  1. I have gone thru the manual but can't find my answer. Can I use rechargable AA batteries in this camera? (I have accumulated quite a few over the years) If not where is the best place to get a second battery pack? Does the charge last a long time? This is weird-I know my AA rechargables like the back of my hand and the power rating. I know nothing about these battery packs-are there higher ratings for them as well, does it matter??

    Thanks again.

  2. What kind of camera is it? You didn't mention it in the post. :D

  3. I assume you are talking about your Canon 350XT. As far as I know, you can't use AA's in this camera, but maybe in an external grip?? Someone else might have to jump in here.

  4. I'm sorry...yes it is for the Rebel 350 XT. Does the battery pack last for 2 tank dives? Also do they come in different power ratings?

    thanks again.

  5. How many shots do you take in 2 tank dives?

Most people reckon between 300-500 shots off a 350 XT battery. As far as I know, there is only one power rating.

  6. That is a good question. On my Oly 4040 the largest sm is 128 and in SHQ I can only get 46 so I have to space them out if I am doing a 2 tank dive or switch to HQ. I have a 1 gig card. Just wondering if I should get a second battery pack right away or not.

  7. I've got the 20D, and I'll be using a 1GB card as well. I'm planning on using both the card and the battery for every two dives next month in Dominica, but I'm planning on shooting RAW. I'm hoping a 1GB card will have enough room for me to take pictures on two dives before getting back to the resort.

I don't know if the 20D uses the same battery as the 350 XT. You shouldn't be triggering the flash on the XT directly, but through the hotshoe/bulkhead/synch chord to your strobes. This will save on the battery life since the both the pop-up camera flash and the LCD screen see very limited use.

Now if you're planning on doing two dives, and then jumping back in the water, you may want to consider getting an extra memory card and battery just to be on the safe side, and to have as back ups in case of failure.

  8. I always recommend bringing along an extra battery and memory card when you go diving. What if something happens to one of them? You don't want to be "shut down" completely due to small items like these.

From what I have heard (not firsthand exp) you should be able to shoot all day on a Rebel XT battery.

    Cheers

    James

  9. XT uses a battery with less capacity than the 20D FWIW...
