I have made about 100 dives using my DS125 strobes and have flashed them about 4000 times in just over 2 years. They have been rechharged after almost every dive and recharged monthly when not in use. What is the general battery life of these strobes and do the flash tubes ever wear out? I have seen no drop off in performance and since I mainly shoot macro at lower powers, I have never come close to totally depleting the batteries.
Thanks.
Most Nicad packs should give you 5 yrs. of service. Sometimes a cell will fail and then the whole pack suffers.
Photo Flashtube mfgrs. usually give ratings anywhere from 10000-25000 flashes. Becon flashes are usually under powered and flask 100K+ times. Ikelite tested a DS50 and flashed it once a minute for a long time and shut it off after 130K flashes.
Gas mileage and flashes may vary depending on use.
Thanks,
I really appreciate your reply. I was afraid the strobes were getting old...from what you say, they are still new!!
Expect some loss of battery capacity by 300 cycles.............
Thanks Ike. Any plans to change the battery packs to NiMH in the future?
