  1. Hi All

please pass over your views on Suitable Wide Angle primes for use Underwater with my D70.

I'm not interested in Zoomers , only primes

    Sigma 15mm Diag

    Nikkor 10.5mm

    sigma 14mm HSM

Any others, i'm just looking to get the angle i would usually get with my 20mm AF-D

    thanks

  2. Have you thought about the Nikkor 16mm, the cropped sensor of the D70 should make it a pretty good match for the 20mm or perhaps closer to a 24. But thats just a guess as i haven't tried it on digital yet.

i think if you want to match the 20mm then the 10.5 will be too fishy eyed for you, not sure about the other two lenses you have listed but the Sigma 15 gets good recommendations from most who use it

  3. Hi Mike & thanks

was just thinking the very thing actually, 16mm i usually use a 24mm to shoot diver portraits anyway

Just a note for anybody else reading

Has anybody used any of the latest sigma zoomers ? 10-20mm 12-24mm, just a thought, i would'nt have to use the zoom underwater i'd just preset it on land prior

using a Sea & Sea DX70 housing and have a NX compact domeport

anybody know what MAX lens lenght that can be fitted into this port

    kind regards

  4. Sea and Sea NX Compact Domeport with no extension ring is a good match with Nikkor 10.5mm but I could never get Nikkor 12-24mm to work when tried with a couple of different extension rings including the one that Sea and Sea recommends, with or without diopters.

I don't know if Sigma zoom would be a better match or not.

  5. I like the Sigma 15mm. Its simple and fast and just the right FOV for most applications. It also takes inexpensive filters in the rear holder. Its a fisheye but on digital it doesn't look that fishey.

The Sigma is very similar to the Nikkor 16mm but less expensive.

The 10.5mm is much wider but I think more difficult to frame in most situations. Fantastic shots Peter! You must have been crazy close to get your subjects in the frame. Clearly an indication of your skill, but I'm sure not easy.

I would also look into the zoom options. The 12-24mm gets a bad wrap around here but its really a fine lens and offers some more flexibility.

  6. I use the Nikkor 14mm f2.8. I chose this because it's just like having the 20mm, rectilinear and all, and it's fast.

    All the best, James
