Mounting ports on Ike D100 housing questions

  1. I’m having a problem mounting the #5503.55 for the Nikon 17-35 lens. The ring gear that allows me to zoom is a bear. I have a kit that came with it that has 2 curved plastic pieces with dual springs on it. I place this over the barrel and then try to slide the ring gear into the channels on the curved pieces and it’s won’t go on. The ring gear is seemingly too small to slide on. Once it’s on, I think I then need to align it to mesh with the zoom adjustment on the outside of the camera.

The next problem I’m having is with the #5508.05 for use with the 105mm Nikkor lens. Essentially, the same problem in reverse. The ring gear is too sloppy on barrel of the lens.

Does anyone have a Ikelite .doc or suggestions that will help me on this. The owner’s manual were vague and of no help.

Thanks to all in advance. Off to the Aquacat to get the system wet on 6-23.

  2. According to the Ikelite website port chart, you need kit #5509.17 special zoom and clamp set for the Nikon 17-35mm lens: http://www.ikelite.com/web_pages/2port_nikon.html

It sounds like you are trying to use the standard size zoom clamp and sleeve which will not work.

Regarding the #5508.05 port, the gear sleeve will seem sloppy and won't operate properly until the port is locked down over it.

  3. Hi Brett,

Good to see you - Welcome to Wetpixel!

For y'alls information, Brett is responsible for a lot of the housing designs at Ikelite and knows a LOT about what works and what doesn't.

    Cheers

  4. I had the same problem when I bought my housing.

As Brett wrote the problem was that I got from B&H the standard size zoom clamp instead the special thin.

The problem solved partially by filing the plastics 'tooths' on the ring and the clamp and solved total when Ike sent me the thin part.
