With UV Filter?

4 posts
  1. I read some threads about the scratch made my diopter added to Canon EFS 18-55 with Ikelite5503 dome. Turned out the diopter is not necessary. However, at the topside I usually take pictures with my UV protector on the front of the lens. Should I also remove it before I put the camera into the housing? Will there be a great shape change to the dome underwater due to the pressure? Any suggestion is appreciated.

  2. As a good practice, I recommend always removing filter when setting up your rig for u/w uses, that is unless said filter is a color correcting one or a close up one, also keep a sharp eye for very bright marking on the side of filter, they can sneek as reflections in the picture nothing worst than having B&W 62mm UV stamped inverted across your image :D bottom line is if it does'nt add to the picture loose it.

    Cheers

  3. Every time the UV filter is off the lens, there's a chance of damaging the front element.

The only time I take the filter off is to replace the beat-up filter with a new one.

Go ahead, snicker at my pessimisim...I'm used to it...

    All the best, James

  4. I agree that it shoul be on almost all the time top side but u/w there is no need for it since the housing is more than suficient. the only time I remove mine top side is when I do art reproduction, aside from that it's on, u/w is differents I have ad reflection problem inside the dome when on a few occasion, learned my lesson now, off it goes before it enter the housing.

    regards
