  1. Hi all,

I thought since we have been discussing slide show software a bit on here that I'd upload mine from Honduras and share it with you. Just turn up your speakers and click the link below. Once the show opener comes up, click on the moray and off you go. Your thoughts are most welcome.

    Enjoy!

    Joe

  2. Very nice, Joe! My favorites were the arrow crabs, spotted drum, reef squid, and sharpnose puffer.

I'm curious - what was that ethereal music you used?

    Jim :D

  3. Very nice Joe. Once again you give me a standard to go after. That was a great trip, Julie is talking about going back to Utila durring Whale Shark season. So go look at my Bonaire slide show...

  4. Hi all,

Thanks for the feedbaclk on the slide show. Martin, you have every bit as good pics as I do.....in fact I was very jealous of your feeding eagle ray that you won on POTW. In my opinion my pics are okay, but I have 1 or 2 I like, such as the barracuda pic, and especially the pic of the cuda and the people watching me on the dock. However, your shots are every bit as good as mine. Now as far as the slide show, mine was a LOT OF WORK, but the taste of my music and slideshow techniques were a first for me. Some may like it some may suggest something different. Thats why I like seeing others' work and I will tell you, I scaled Photodex and watched their shows to get ideas. I saw a few things that I thought I could improve upon, and other stuff I did not like. Here is what I observed.

    1. Everyone uses pure dissolve.

    2. Most use no motion effects ( I kinda like that as long as it is subtle)

    3. Some like very long dissolves, like 5 seconds, and I think for us it is too long beacuse we want to show our pictures and not bore the viewer.

    4. I hate the wobbly titles because it catches the eye away from the image. Some viewers like that but its just not me (personal preference).

    5. No video

The disolves are also ones taste. I worked on mine for a month, but I am the only one who might like them, other will, and othr wont.

Bottom line is that the show is in your hands.

Okay, now I am going to show you another slide show. This one is not underwater, but I experimented with placing video in the slide show. The video was shot with a 5060 caamera and then edited into the show.

I am posting this just to show everyone the next level of ProShow Gold.

Please let me know what you all think.

  5. Hi joe, can't watch the show as my server is just way too slow for that, however a quick question about Proshow Gold.

Is it one of those software programs that needs to be played on a DVD software such as Power DVD or does it have an autoplay function?

I used to use Roxio 6 which had a nice Autoplay menu that popped up as soon as the cd was popped into the computer, however i have recently tried Roxio 7 and it requires a DVD player as does Memories on TV.

I offer my slideshows to a wider audience not all of whom have access to DVD players on their computers so am looking for software that does not require it. Roxio 6 is ok but i don't like the choice of transitions.

    Thanks

    Mike

  6. Hi Mike,

    Happy Mantas to you.

You can autoplay this software no problem. You can create an exe file that Photodex condenses into a self playing file that will work on any machine. So if you want to give out slide shows, or sell them. you can with NO problem.

    Joe

  7. In fact, you can create an exe file or a web based file. You can put "numbers of play" limits on your filest too. It's pretty flexible. You can also add regestration numbers if you want. Let me know if you want any info that is license related

  8. Thanks Joe,

Now then, where can i purchase the software?

ps no mantas for me this morning, late night at O'Keefes last night......

    :D:D

  9. Hi Mike,

Too bad about the mantas...we cold water divers look for you to swim with the giants so we can live vicariously through you.: :D

You can order the software through photodex.com

Its all online. They give you a year of updates.

And it is a lot of fun ...but its a lot of work if you want to do a good job.

    Happy diving.

    Joe

  10. Thanks again Joe, i will look into it now.

And of course give you some daily manta shots if it helps....:D

  11. All I ask is that when I come there you show me the REAL Yap

    God day..or evening.

    Your dive buddy Joe

  12. Hi Joe,

I thoroughly enjoyed both of your slideshows. The transitions, motion effects, music.....must have been a lot of work. I liked the inserted video on the wildflowers show. Except for the last one, the effect was subtle yet persuasive. I'm not sure why I didn't like the last video - the video moving across the grey mountain background - it just didn't seem to fit as nicely as the others.

BTW, what's the music. I love it.

    Larry

  13. Okay, now I am going to show you another slide show.  This one is not underwater, but I experimented with placing video in the slide show.  The video was shot with a 5060 caamera and then edited into the show.

I am posting this just to show everyone the next level of ProShow Gold.

Please let me know what you all think.

Joe - The wildflowers were superb. My wife and I made our first visit to California two months ago, and we were just amazed at the flowers that were blooming in early April.

In my opinion, the video inserts did not add to the show, and were maybe a bit distracting. Maybe a dissolve to a full frame of video would have been more effective.

That's a minor objection though. Your photography was gorgeous, especially the orange poppies that we saw on our trip too.

And I still want to know what music you used in the first slide show!

    Jim :D

  14. Hi everyone,

Thanks for the feedback. I too struggle with the video inserts. It's a feature you have available to you, but I agree that it can be distracting. Probably need to really figure out when vid works and when it doesn't. In this case the 5060 didn't give good enough quality to go full screen, that's why they are small insets. And it was a total experiment, but now I know how to make it work.

I am currently working on a California Underwater show and will post when ready.

Jim, I saw your show and it is fantastic. I really like the first pic of the schooling fish. Very nice shot.

My music on the wildflowers was Deuter (magic island), and the Honduras show was Angles of the Sea by Dan Gibson.

    Thanks for the feedback.

    Joe

  15. Joe,

Fantastic show! You've definitely shown me a side of Pro Show that I didn't know existed!

I think I have to rework my show now!

    Stu

  16. Thanks everyone. I am working on a California underwater show. I'll upload it when I am done, next will be Indonesia :)

    Joe

  17. Hi Joe,

But I have a question for you. I downloaded ProShow Gold last week to do a show on our Indonesia trip. I can't find any recommendations for file size/resolution. How do you process your images before adding them to the slide show?

I haven't been able to view your show on Roatan and Utila yet. When I click on the eel a Photodex message comes up saying it's waiting for server information. I have a DSL line. Not sure if it's me or the Photodex server.

    Thanks,

    Kathy

  18. Hi Kathey,

Some people, for whatever reason, get the same error you get while others get the show right away. My wife let it sit for an hour and it finally downloaded. I'll try to re-upload it and see if it gets to a different server.

As for file size, PSG automatically resizes your pics when it uses them in a show. However, you can go into show options and manually adjust image and music quality. If you are showing to web, just pics the lowest quality. It still looks pretty good but is a smaller screen size. I'd post the file on here if I could but it's about 30 megs.

I'll take a look and see if I can get it working for you.

    Joe

  19. Joe,

I was able to see the show today. I clicked on the eel and then just let it go. It took about 10 minutes but was worth it. The show was great!

I really like the wide angle images with the model. Especially the one in the cave. Very cool. The fades in and out were really well done and I like the zoom and pan effects. They were subtle but really got your attention to the subject. Gave me some good ideas. :-)

    Have fun in Indonesia,

    kathy
