d70 housing

  1. Hello Everybody,

I'm a newby from the netherlands in unterwater photogrpahy. I recently ordered an ikelite housing for my d70 an the DS-125. As soon as I receive my new equipment I plan to follow a course unterwater photography. For the moment I have some (for most of you problably stupid) questions. I hope somebody can inform me:

1- I ordered a 6807.1, does anybody know if they are already shipped?

2- How can I actually see the fysical difference between the 6807 and the 6807.1?

3- I already have a 12-24 nikon lense. The ikelite site tells about an extra part that is neede for this lense. What happens if I don't use it?

4- How do you operate the zoom when the camera is in the housing?

5- What additional lense would you suggest beside the 12-24 (I don't want to commit to a specific area of photography). Also the lense has to be handy on land too (I only plan to do unterwater photograhy during the holidays)

I hope to get some answers...

    Thanks,

    Mike Frens.

  2. No difference between size of #6807 and #6807.1 housings. Hope to ship first housings by 6/15, but will take several weeks to fill all orders for this housing. The 12-24 lens requires a #5509.12 sleeve to operate the zoom. Note that the 8" dome is recommended for this particular lens for sharpest corners; 6" dome will be fine for many instances.

  3. Re "5- What additional lenses would you suggest beside the 12-24".

I think a nice complement to your 12-24mm lens would be the Nikon 60mm/ It's great for underwater fish portraits and you can get some neat shots with it top side of everything from close ups of flowers to shots of distant birds.

Also, while the 60mm gives the most magnificatiion behind a flat port, it can also be used behind the standard port for the 12-24mm lens and the 8"port.

For sample shots see the following page.

  4. Thanks Peter for the information on the lense, but I prefer to have zoom lenses. I saw you also use the 18-70. I might consider this one.

Ike, you say the housings are the same size. But how can I see the differences between the two housings?

    Thanks,

I hope to get some more input on the lenses....

  5. Here's a photo of the iTTL capable housing that I took at Seaspace:

And here's a photo from the Ikelite website showing the normal housing:

As you can see, the only difference to the size is a few buttons on the left.

    Hope that helps.

  6. Just a note ...

I am amazed the ikelite website photo has a puffer fish being puffed up on it .. I'm not personally a crusader saying things like that are bad .. just it is sometimes hard for us UW photographers to earn a good name as it is.
