I’ve been approached by an author whom wants to use some of my nudibranch pictures in a biology book.
What do you think would be an appropriate fee for me to take? She’s been in contact with National Geographic and some museums but their offers have been over her budget.
I don’t know exactly how many pictures she wants, but it’s between 5 and 10.
In the end it really comes down to how much you want to sell you pictures. There is no point massively undercutting other agencies as you will devalue your work. However, by the same token, you may decide that you can come in slightly cheaper because you don't have the overheads of other agencies.
Hope this helps.
Anthony has good points, also some good links, thanks for those Anthony.
One thing i do is i have a $100 minimum for photos used. Unless it is something really small market whereas i will do some sort of small price reduction. But i would suggest nothing less than $100 per photo for a text book
No worries Mike!
$100 min sounds fair, particularly for a text book.
Thanks for your help and hopefully she'll buy some pictures as well.
