Sony DSC-V3 and Ikelite DS50

  1. Hi,

I'm a novice with a little bit of experience working with film and digital cameras underwater, and I've finally decided to take the plunge and get my own gear (I've been fortunate enough to be able to borrow gear previously). Based on the advice I've found on the forums here, I've decided to get the Sony DSC-V3 and an Ikelite housing with the DS50 strobe. I'm hoping to put together a moderately versatile system that is easy to use. My question for the group is really about wherether or not I'm going to have all the basic gear I need or if I've left out something essential that I will need to make this combo work.

The gear I've bought is the Sony DSC-V3, Ikelite #6110.93 housing, and the Ikelite #3944.41 SubStrobe DS-50 Digital Package with TTL Sync Cord and Strobe Arm.

Do I need anything else to hook the strobe up to the housing and camera? Are there any camera/housing/strobe accessories I should consider? I'm planing my next dive trip to Cozumel in mid august, so I'll be drift diving with this rig in water with (hopefully) good visibility.

    TIA,

    Steve

  2. Adding #4100.6 EV Manual Controller between strobe and housing would provide ten power settings............

  3. I was beginning to suspect as much. So, the DS50 *can* be attached directly to the V3 housing, but doing so means each flash will be a "full dump"? Or does this mean that without the #4100.6 EV Manual Controller I won't be able to use the flash at all?

    Thanks,

    Steve

  4. Works fine without #4100.6 EV Manual Controller, giving full power flash each time. Adding diffuser and varying distance would be only "adjustment" to light output.
