  1. The last time I dove in Key Largo was more than 5 years ago. I am going there in late July for a few dives, I am especially interested in diving at the shipwrecks. Can you guys suggest a good and not too expensive place to stay and/or dive with?

    Thanks in advance,

    Luiz

  2. Hi Luiz,

Good to hear you're going to be in town. I can't really suggest a good cheap place to stay as I usually just do the hour drive south to get there. What I can do is recommend a number of operators that I'm sure will be more than what you expect.. They are (in no particular order):

Quiescence - they run three, 6-pack (6 divers max) boats. Boat captains for very knowledgable of the area and the operation is superbly run.

Dual Porpoise - Capt. Scott is great. A marine biologist with a great passion for what he does. You should defintely ask him to take you to places that are 'off the beaten path.' He's a big macro critter (blennies especially) fanatic. There are some mentions of hotel/dive packages on his web site.

Diver's City USA - Barbara and Bob run a great setup. They are big wreck fans and you can easily access the Duane (ask them about doing a night dive on it - advance dive), the Eagle (neat wreck!) and tons more.

If you'd like, let me know when you're in town and I'll try to meet up with you for some diving. I might be able to find a critter or two in my backyard. :)

PS - Check out my web site for a pic or two of the wrecks including the Duane at night (Ocean Gallery -> Last Week's Photos).

  3. Hi guys,

    Thanks for the tips.

Laz, I will be there more or less between 17-22 of July, will you be in town?

    Luiz

  4. If you're diving on the 17th I can join you for a dive or ten. On any of the others week days I'll see what I can do about getting one of those 24 hour flus that makes me miss a day of work. :)

  5. I went to key largo about a year and half ago. I we stayed in a decent place, and I thought the dive operation was very good. It was also inexpensive. We were planning on going back to visit them this year but for some reason the trip fell through, but we would def. do business with them again. The name is Aqua-nuts or Kellys on the Bay. Check out their site: http://www.aqua-nuts.com/ Hope this helps.
