Opinions on 8" vs. 6" dome port on Ike D70 housing

9 posts
  1. Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on the 6" vs 8" dome port for the Nikkor 12-24mm lens on a D70 with the Ike housing? I've got mine on order as soon as my iTTL housing arrives. But I was looking through the port chart and noticed that though the 6" 5503.50 works with the 12-24, but the 8" 5510.80 was recommended.

  2. I'll let you know when I get it in the water this august. Karl has the port and he highly recommends it.

  3. I'm also very interesting in the 12-24, especially behind Ike's 6'' ports.

is somone with that equipment can upload a review and photo samples for that combination its will be appreciated.

The most informatics place I found it at splashdowndivers.

I'm personally thinking about the Tokina 12-24 and not the Nikon since its cost almost half.

  4. I've used both domes and highly recommend the 8" dome over the 6" for the 12-24mm....the 8" is also great for the 15mm Sigma

The rigs handling characteristics will change...becomes positive and tries to rotate dome up....but it's worth it IMHO.....a 2lb dive weight zipped to the tray bottom will make the rig slightly negative with 2 DS 125's

  5. It's not too late to change my order yet.... but buoyancy characteristics aside, what might I expect in differences between the two ports from an image standpoint?

  6. Have a look in "who's shooting what?" in this forum - many comments apply to this query too!

  7. See my review of the Ike housing w/ 8" dome here at Wetpixel.

  8. The 8'' dome port is superior for this type of lens, but still I want to ear an opinions about using the 12-24 lens (Nikon & Tokina) with the 6''.

I just can't afford right now to buy the lens + 8'' port and want to know if the less expensive option with the 6'' is acceptable.

I saw that Peter Schulz is quit happy with that combination.

  9. If money is really an issue, either a 16 or 10.5 fisheye is an option, and both appear to work well with the compact port (and, if you and your subject can stand the barrel distortion, they are cheaper, sharper and faster, to boot).
