What about the Nikon D2H?

7 posts
  1. I may have found a Nikon D2H with 6 monts guaranti for the same price like a new canon d20

I was thinking to go with a D70s becauce my Olympus 5050 shutter lag and slow raw writing times is killing me

I dont know mutch about the Nikon D2H.

Have anybody have experience with this model?

I offen take action photos from freedivers and I thinkg that a hi speed camera will make the difference..

  2. Larry...aka Lionfish 43....has a D2H that he uses topside and plans on eventually getting a D2X and will use the D2H as a lower cost back up body.....the cameras are the same size so they both fit in the same housings

He has nothing but praise for the D2H's shooting speed and picture quality

If you are willing to spend the extra now for a D2X housing, you'll have the option in the future to upgrade to the D2X....pretty good plan

  3. I agree with Karl - the D2h is a really good camera for the price. However it's not a GREAT camera.

Talk to Kasey and Lionfish43 here as they both have them. They are super fast, and have a great pro body and AF. They are only 4 megapixels and are not good for ISO above about 400 from what I've seen which should be fine for an underwater camera, but not for low light topside work.

Another thing to consider is that the housings for this camera are VERY expensive at this time compared to the D70 housings.

    Cheers

    James

  4. I would also say that the size of the camera and housing would be a drawback for you as a freediver. The camera is almost twice the size of the D70 and the housing is a giant as well, that being the D2X housing

  5. You are right, the camera housing is very big and VERY expensive.

Anyway... the come out that the D2H have only a american waranti and I am living in Europe - Sweden.

  6. Hi Lambis,

I think that the D2H is not a great camera for you. The housing is very expensive and big.

I know you are a big fan of available light shooting, and one thing that really came though doing a week of filter tests in the Red Sea was that you should choose a camera that makes it quick and easy to calibate the white balance. The D70 (and D2H) are much easy than the D100 in this respect and can be done with one finger. Makes a big difference when shooting.

  7. Hi Alex

Calibate the white balance with a Olympus PT015 is a adventure. First you need both hands and still you must do some acrobatics to make it happen. I rememer that I have one gay card with me to experience with custom ´white balance. I nedd 3 hands to do it :-)
