Just back from chaperoning a week long HS graduation trip to Playa del Carmen in Mexico. Only squeezed in a couple of dives but I had an opportunity to try the Sigma 15 topside and I was pleasantly suprised by the overall quality of the images from this lens. I had origanally purchased the lens to shoot large sharks on the Wetpixel Shark Expedition but since that trip it's sat unused in my camera bag. Here are a couple of examples of a landscape and close focus shot:
The beach at Akumal
Nice! And not noticeably bendy at all.
What lens did you use to shoot the sharks, instead, Larry?
Alex
I did use the 15mm u/w on the shark trip. I just had not used it since.
Here's a 15mm available light shot from that trip:
Looks good Larry....very sharp
Karl
Good shot of the shark and also impressive above the water.
btw: the tiger shark, don't they suppose to be dangerous? in some articles they describes as wild carnivores that eats anything including human, in the shots you took in the Wetpixel Shark Expedition they looks very relaxing and so are the divers near them.
Arnon,
Tiger sharks can be very dangerous under the right, or wrong depending on your viewpoint, set of circumstances. The Shearwater shark dives are conducted under semi-controlled conditions and are relatively safe. Given the same large tiger shark in a different venue - such as a freediver spearfishing far from shore or the safety of a boat - and the outcome could be otherwise.
