Connector

  1. I just received Matthias' newest ETTL converter and I'm in the midst on connecting it to my Subal C20 (Canon 20D) housing. The Subal comes with some connections where, if I can find the plug, I will be able to make the connection without having to cut/solder any cables. I'm hoping someone might know where I can purchase these male & female plugs or even what type of plug [name] I should be looking for.

Here are some shots of the plug:

They would connect to the board via the inside 6-pin plug:

The dimensions of the female plug are 9/16" x 3/16".

    Any ideas?

  2. If you can measure the pin spacings in mm that might help. I've found the generic range of connectors you need in our Toby catalog, it looks like the 800 series might work:

    http://www.toby.co.uk/Catalogue/ShowSubCategory.asp?id=15

They have PDFs of the specs.

    That's a 1.25mm pitch, but there are 1mm(600), 1.5mm (1160) and 2mm pitches (PH200).

Hope that's of some help. If you post the pitch, I can give you the ranges that might work. Of course Toby is a UK company, but a US should be able to match the components.

  3. In the states DIGIKEY is probably the best supplier of these types of components. I will bring in my Subal housing to our lab guys on Tuesday and see if we can identify the right connector in the Digikey catalog and we can buy them for you (they are about $2.00 each) if you don't have an account. The big problem is that the tools to put one of the connectors together cost about $150 for the female connector tool and $250 for the male connector tool. We might be able to put them together manually without the tool using a punch system, but it depends a little on the configuration.

Let me know if you want us to get you a connector.

  4. Martyn - Thank you for the information. I was able to find what I think is the exact plug and have ordered some. I truly appreciate it.

BVA - Thank you for your help. I went through the Mouser catalog but was unable to find it. I totally forgot about Digikey from back in my college electronic courses days. I will check them out. If you do happen to come across the part number please let me know. I appreciate your generous offer to order them and get them connected. If I can find the part and the ones Toby's are not the right ones, I'll order them from there. While I don't have the connector tool, I'm sure that wouldn't be too difficult to connect with a good set of pliers, a little solder [i don't trust crimped wires - back from my car alarm installation days] and a little patience.

  5. Laz,

Please keep us posted! I'd love to try one of these myself.

    Cheers

  6. Can you let us know what connectors you ordered and were they the right ones? Thanks,

    Bill
