Updated recently from 15 years with a Nikonis system to a 300d and Aquatica housing. I am about to go on a trip and try out the new setup with the 10-22 lense but just wanted to confirm the part no. for the extension ring and dome shade. Perhaps Herb can let me know what he uses?
Mick
You should be using Extension Ring 18461 and the 18480 Fisheye Dome Shade. If you still vignet with the 18480 Dome Shade then remove the shade. The extension ring is absolutely necessary. You may also wish to consider a +2 Diopter Lens. As Stephen mentioned you will obtain the best results with smaller apertures.
This is what Dave Marsh of UW Photo Tech recommends!
Thanks Alex
I saw that post which is what prompted me to ask the question as Aquatica recommend the 18453 extension ring with the 18482 port. I haven’t had the chance to try this underwater so I was hoping that someone with this housing could let me know what they use
Mick
The Aquatica site does not list the proper Shade or Extension ring for the 10-22 lens. The information I posted is correct. Extension Ring 18461 and Dome Shade 18480. The Zoom Gear is 18706.
When the 10-22 was first shipping we were setting them up similar to the Nikon 12-24 lens using the same Zoom Gear and the same Extension Ring. Aquatica has since developed a specific gear and extension ring for the 10-22.
The listing for the Dome Shade is simply a typographical error, we generally don't use the 18482 Shade with lenses wider than 17mm.
Thanks Dave
Unfortunatly I already have the 18453 extention ring and dont think I will have time to replace it prior to my trip. What is the downside of using this ring?
Mick
Hi Mick,
You'll have no problem at all with the 18453 extension ring, enjoy!
I asked a question on soft edges with the 10-22mm here before. I got chance today to try it out. So with the Aquatica A20 and Canon 20D I used one extention ring on the 8 inch dome port, it was perfect no soft edges. I also notice that the dome shade has to be on correct, I mean that the shade has 4 edges to it, 2 shorter than the other 2, you must make sure the taller edges have to be on top and bottom, leaving the shorter ones to the side, if not you will see the dome shade in the images.
Thanks to all
Mick
I just wanted to check...is the 18453 extension just for the 100mm macro lens? I can't find the 18461 on the Aqautica site.

Chris
B&H have it on their site
Mick
Hi Mick-Still can't find 18461 on B&H....maybe a different number ???

It was there a few days ago but looks like it has been removed. Not really sure what goes on there but I have contacted Blake from aquatica who tells me that they have tested the 18543 and get good results so I will stick with this for the moment.
Mick
Thanks Mick...let me know how the 14453 works with the 10-22mm. I have the same set up and don't feel like buying another ring.
