40mm Nik mount Macro?

5 posts
  1. I am currently looking for a 40 mm, Nik Mount, fast (AF), with a macro capability of say 10 inches or less.

So far the only candidate I have come up with it the Sigma 20-40 locked at 40.

Does anyone know of any others?

The idea is to go back to what my Nik 60 was with film rather tha with dig and crop factor.

    cheers

  2. I have seen some people use the Sigma 50 mm which is narrower than you want but it does have a focusing distance of about 7.5 inches. Hopefully others will have better suggestions.

  3. How about your own 17-55mm locked at 40mm. Minimum focus of 14 inches, smack a 2+ or 4+ diopter on there then your minimal focusing distance should be ok. You won't be able to focus to infinity but should be ok for your macro requirement and no shopping required :)

  4. Or you can use the 24-85 AFS behind a flat port. It focuses fast and close, but again, apply a diopter if you need it.

    Cheers

  5. Hello Whitehead,

Take a look at the Nikon 24-85mm 2.8~4 D lens. It has a macro position that works with focal lengths from 35mm upwards, though in a 6" dome it has to focus close enough that it is effectively wider than 35mm. I use the lens over its whole range with my Nikon film cameras (F5's) and it is one of my most used lenses. I use it on a Seacam housing with their wideport, which has about the same curvature as a 6" Ikelite dome in combination with a 60mm extension tube (which co-incidentally is the same extension ring I use with the 17-35mm lens and superdome.
