I would like to know your advice please on the Canon PowerShot S2 IS. I like the specs with the 12x zoom etc. I would only occasionally use it underwater and I am not a savy photographer, I would not realy use the manual functions much. I would however use the video mode quite a bit.
Also can I get an underwater case for this one? I know you can get a case for the earlier model, the S1 but I can't find anything on the canon site about S2 cases.
Thanks for your help, much appreciated
I have one on backorder from Dell but am thinking about canceling. There is still no indication of a housing being made. Panasonic announced a really cool LX1 camera that would be nice. I like to shoot video underwater as well and it's widescreen which I love. But the wuestion of the housing still is there...
The S2 IS looks like a great camera and I wanted to get one myself, but I gave Canon Australia a call and they said that all accessories are announced at the time of the launch of a camera, and that there isn't anything about a housing for the S2. I then e-mailed Canon USA, and they said that that there aren't any plans for a housing at the moment, but wouldn't rule out changing that in the future.
If you can wait 6 -12 months I guess a housing may become available....but by then other new and exciting cameras will have come out and you might want to wait for a housing for them to be released!
PS. I’m now weighting up the C7070 as I can’t find a super-zoon camera with manual control option and an affordable housing.
I have the S2IS and it is amazing. Fast start up, fast shutter response and its super easy to go to movie mode, just hit the red button on the back, no turning dials. I used the S1IS for quite awhile when i was with the USGS because it was super compact (even with Canon's housing on it) and took great images. I needed a compact camera since I was carrying so much other gear (water testing equipment, sample jars etc.) and a full size DSLR with housing was just too cumbersome.
I hope ikelite, or someone will come out with a housing for the S2 since it is such a super camera....hint hint!!!
