I have an assignment from a publication to photograph Beqa Adventure Divers' "Big Fish Encounter" in Fiji next month and wanted to know if any Wetpixel members have been there.
Any info regarding what to expect, the actual shark feed, resort (Lagoon Resort), location, etc. etc. would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks in advance for any possible assistance.
Best wishes,
Michael

Eric and I both did this with Aqua Trek after the Fiji Digital Shootout last year. I believe Eric posted something about it here or on his personal website.

I've did the dive in 2003. Beqa Aqua Trek does the dive for its own customers and was doing it for Marlin Bay (now under new mgmt.) as well. The dive master was something of a local celebrity as he has been filmed for Fijian TV hand feeding tiger sharks. The dive is held on a wall at Beqa passage within the lagoon. Divers are lined up behing a coral rubble wall on a slope that intersects the bottom so its kind of like sitting in bleachers to watch. The visibility was easily 100 feet although the feeding silts it up. There were lots of huge fish (Trevally, Jacks, Tuna) in addition to some 8 foot nurse sharks that were actually pretty tame. There were some big (10 foot) bull sharks swimming around but they never came in to take the food. If you have a camera, the divemasters will let you sit very close to the action. I was so close, that I got some great shots with a 15 mm lens. I have done shark dives in the Bahamas and Truk but neither was as exciting as this dive since there were more fish and the sharks were bigger.
Here is a picture of some impatient nurse sharks taken on the dive:
