Any plans for a Light&Motion D2X housing?

  1. I'm currently using a Light&Motion Titan with my NikonD100. I love the housing and have dropped a fair amount of cash on both the Dome and Macro Port as well as gear rings for various lenses. Sometime with in the next twelve months or so I'd like to upgrade to the D2X and it kills me that I may have to start over with a different system. Does anyone have inside knowledge as to whether or not Light&Motion is working on a housing for the D2X? Seeing as how they haven't come out with a housing for the popular D70, do you get the sense they're planning on abandoning their DSLR customers entirely?

  2. Unfortunately Light & Motion does not have any current plans to offer any new DSLR products.

  3. I asked someone from Light and Motion via email awhile back if they might make a housing for a D200 should that camera become a reality. My interpretation of his response was that yes that would be a possibility they'd be interested in pursuing.

If they did, I wonder if they'd do any development with a better viewfinder.

Nikon has very recently registered for the D200 trademark...

  4. I just did a trademark search and D200 was registered by Nikon on July 14, 2005. If previous models are any indication we should see the D200 this fall. This is exciting!

  5. Yep. That would be nice.

  6. This all sounds a bit tenuous to me! A company saying that they might build a housing for a camera that might never exist. My feeling is that L&M will not go after the DSLR market again.

The D200 looks set to be a very good and popular camera for UW photography (being an ideal upgrade for D70, S2 and D100 users - as well as a first DSLR for many experienced Nikon film shooters) and housing manufacturers should not ignore it.

Sadly, that's the impression I get also.

  8. I guess that some of the good folks at LMI would be the people to ask about this...:-)

My impression (unconfirmed) is that LMI liked the D100 because it can be electronically controlled through the grip connector. I'm guessing they bypassed the D70 because you can't.

The D2x can be remote controlled which is good, but there's not a huge market for it. If the D200 goes back to using the 10-pin remote connector, then I'm hoping LMI will give it some serious thought.

I used the Titan extensively when I was in Fiji last year and it worked flawlessly. I really liked it - and think an updated Titan D200 would be excellent.

  9. I love LMI - they have innovative products and very helpful staff. Their hesitation to follow up the Titan housing may sabotage their efforts, however. LMI needs to jump in feet first, or d/c their dslr housings altogether. A camera housing is only as good as its port lineup and lens support. If you are worried about future support for a housing line it is better to go elsewhere.

LMI couldn't have chosen a better camera to house than the d100. It is perhaps the dslr with the longest life span ever, and I suspect few other dslrs have a larger user base. If LMI couldn't capitalize their R&D on that camera... They also have an edge in price against European housings due to the weak dollar. It has been a good climate for the Titan D100! I hope that LMI rejuvinates its dslr support, as more mfrs are good for us all.

Yes ofcoarse. However, they seem to have chosen to ignore the email I sent so I figured I try to dig up some dirt here.

  11. I think the folks that would help you (answer your email) are in Bonaire right now for the digital shootout.

    Cheers
