Kit upgrade

5 posts
  1. Hello,

For the last 18 months whilst learning to dive I have been using an Oly C750UZ in a PT018 housing with an epoque DS strobe on a small arm; I have managed to get some halfway decent results of slow moving things (Morays etc). Issues which are now driving me bonkers are the shutter lag / slow AF and the very slow write times even for fine jpegs.

I have neither the talent nor budget (yet :)) to go to dSLR - so any suggestions as to what kit would be a worthwhile upgrade are most welcome.

I would like to be able to shoot some wide® angle scenes as well as macro and have a budget of ~£800-1000 for camera, housing and strobe.

    Thanks

  2. Hi ,

Think about a Olympus c7070 and you will have all ways and all posibilities to step up. For example : WA lens up to 130 ° makrolenses , wetchangeable , TTL strobe fireing , a quite nice movie mode with zoom and AF , and a 2 slot store system CF I , II Microdrive and XD up to 9 GB and many different housings to choose from, depending at your money and whishes ....... I will say the most interesting digital camera system in the consumer sektor worldwide and you will meet many divers with experience to this setup variations .......

  3. I agree that the Olympus 7070 is a good camera to look at. I'd also look at the Fuji F810.

    Cheers

  4. Thanks,

Thought about C7070 as nearly bought C5060 initially (and boy do I wish I had now!). In other forum posts Olympus gets a poor review for shutter lag and AF though. My only other thought was a Canon Pro1 but the Oly kit seems much better supported for UW use.

  5. I've got a Fuji F810 and the shutter lag is pretty inconsequential. The pics that it can produce are sharp. Autofocus works well and is quick even in lower light. AND there is a cheap ikelite housing available. You can get the camera and ike housing and come in well under $1000. Of course i heard it just got discontinued...and finding it in the states was never too easy (if that's where you are located). But it can be found if you poke around.
