TTL problems with Oly 8080 & Ikelite DS-125

  1. I am using a new system. Oly C 8080 with Ikelite housing/DS-125 strobe. I am not getting any TTL variation in flash when I let the lens see the full strobe or black it out. I am beginning to think it may be the 8080. I have all the settings as recommended by Ike, but the settings change when I put down the internal strobe.

The directions from Ikelite say to set to:

    set to manual f 5.6 1/100

set flash mode to slow(lightning bolt)

    set to external flash only

    set slow 1

I can set to the above settings with the internal flash up. The TTL appears to work, although both flashs fire. The second I close the internal flash the flash off icon appears and the DS125 will fire at less than 1/8 power flash, even with the lens covered so that it can't see the flash. The strobe appears to work fine in manual mode.

I must be missing something, but I think I have tried every possible way to get there.

  2. Internal flash set to "off" but still firing indicates that TTL communication is not taking place between the camera and strobe. Check that the connector remains completely in the camera hot shoe when sliding the back into the housing. If connector gets pushed out of the shoe slightly, it won't work. You MUST have the new digital sync cord with blue band. Other possible causes include a broken wire in sync cord or hot shoe.

  3. Hi Ike,

I checked the hotshoe. It does the same thing without the camera actually in the housing. With just the camera on the backplate I get no TTL modulation. I get a flash available icon with the popup flash in the up position, however, when I close the popup I get the noflash icon. Obviously, I am doing this out of the housing. I do have a new sync cable with the blue band on it. I have located other ikelite cables on the island, but not another one with the blue band. I know you changed something in the cable when you went digital. I have a dvm with me. Is there a pinout diagram somewhere? Should I just see continuity on all pins end to end?

Hey, I am getting some great shots in manual mode. Still trying to get used to this autofocus thing, but getting think I getting the hang of it.

    Thanks again,

    Steve
