D100/Tokina12-24/Aquatica Zoom Gear Problem

4 posts
  1. FYI

I ordered the Tokina 12-24 lens for my D100 in an Aquatica housing. I had heard some had success using the Aquatica Zoom Gear for the Nikon 12-24 on this lens.

Well I am finding the gear will not slide forward over enough of the Manual Focus ring to allow the lens to be attached to the body. It needs to slide about 1/8 inch more towards the front of the lens over the “rubber grippy†manual focus ring.

So if I like the lens, it’s US$400 less than the Nikon, do I go have it ground out at some metal shop or bite the bullet and order the Nikon 12-24?

  2. Try contacting Blake at info@Aquatica.ca , its possible that he might be able to custom machine one for you, in this case you might have to send the lens for fitting purposes as is usually the case.

  3. I chickend out and sent it back and ordered the Nikon 12-24. It was probably no big deal but I am not comfortable messing around with the gear like that. It would be an easy fix for Aquatica to do and they could add one more lens to their list.

  4. It is an easy fix, the problem is limited budget when it come to purchasing lens for the company. that is why most housing manufacturer will ask that you send the lens for custom work. there is just to many combination availables, sometime you can get away by borrowing odd lenses from companies, but for the obvious popular lens you got to fish out the dineros and buy the lens. Aquatica has quite a substantial roster of lenses used only for sizing and testing. It would make a lot of camera store envious, but they can't get every one of them. the 12-24 is a well proven design which as proven itself, so in any case, good decision!
