Got in a couple more dives last weekend. Conditions were not as good as last time. Quite a strong surge. It was an adventure shooting while being moved back and forth 5 feet every couple of seconds by the water.

Herb -
good stuff!
i have a drysuit, but don't go often to monterey, because it's 2.5-3 hours away... and conditions aren't predictable.
so I get up at 4am, drive down there, and abort a dive.
out of curiosity, what kind of gloves do you use? semi-dry?
hehehe.
but seriously, I have to get down there more, since without diving monterey, it can be months between dives for me. ![]()
The blue gloves in the pictures look to be dry gloves. I haven't gone to dry gloves yet with my drysuit but I am seriously considering it. It may help extend dive times.
Those blue gloves on my buddy Ian are dry groves. Ian owns just about every possible piece of dive equipment imaginable including a boat, which makes him an ideal dive buddy.
I'm still using a wetsuit which I probably will ditch for a dry suit in the near future. I used to use 5mm wet groves but had to switch to 3mm when I started photography. I like the convenience of a wetsuit but I do get cold at times. Over the last few months, I've seen water temperatures ranging from 45 to 55 degrees. It's really cold at 45 degrees in a wetsuit.
Eric. If you want to do photography at Monterey, it takes a little commitment. Because the conditions can be very difficult, I think it takes diving here at least somewhat regularly to be confortable enough with dive safety to concentrate on photography. Perhaps once a month or so would do it. If I've been away from diving here for awhile and the conditions are less than ideal, I would dive without the camera. For regular dive reports, check out the ba_diving yahoo group. That's also a good place to post questions about diving Monterey.
