A few Bonaire Shootout pics

7 posts
  1. My wife and I had a bunch of fun and learned a ton of uw photography fundamentals at the shootout. Berkely, Dan, Eric, and Jim were excellent hosts. You could tell that they absolutely love this stuff.

The trip began with a very magical evening slide show projected against a

large wall at the outdoor hotel bar. The sky was clear and the stars (no

light pollution in that remote island) provided a really neat background to

the awesome slide show. The pics from Jim Watt, Eric, Berkely, Dan jacked up the mood for the upcoming warm water diving and shooting.

The typical day was buffet breakfast, 2 boat dives, buffet lunch, 3 hours of seminars, submission of daily photos (3-4), a dinner dive (for me), dinner, and a slideshow of the daily photos or a night dive.

I've only been diving 1.5 years and shooting .5 years, but the shootout tripled my knowledge of shooting and diving. We will definitely try this again.

(Ignore the large number of fish ID shots. I got overly excited seeing neat critters.)

  2. Thanks for the info, Will.

It sounds like it was a great event. Alex

  3. Nice results considering you've only been shooting u/w images for half a year. Even for a veteran these would be good. A few of the shots are OOF but overall quality is commendable. Congratulations on the win.

  4. Nice pictures. It seems everyone had fun in the shoot-put. I definitely want to go to one, someday...(note to self:start a shoot-out fund)

  5. I agree with Larry. Slight OOF but damn good for a 6 month newbie. Keep working on composition, lighting and getting closer. You will begin to notice a remarkable difference if you "kaizen" your work.

  6. Very nice job.....your topside shots are outstanding....judging by them, your UW learning curve will be very fast

  7. Karl is right, your red sunset shot is the bomb.
