Only since returning from a liveaboard trip last month with my new camera setup have I begun to learn what is involved with digital UW photography. Geesh! It's a good thing I needed a new hobby.
With virtually no limit on the number of shots that can be taken on a dive, and now all the various software adjustments that can/must be done (especially when your flash stopped working on the second day), my durn time gets chewed up in huge chunks.
I have another trip coming up this weekend (Blackbeard's), and after further study of the Wetpixel archives, I guess I'll next start trying to shoot in RAW format and learn to adjust those images. I have "Splashdown Divers" to thank for getting up the courage to give that a try.
As you can see from the attached file, I haven't learned to get rid of backscatter, yet. That shot is from the first time out with the new setup back in March in Key Largo. I only today revisited this shot to see what I could do with my new-found knowledge of Photoshop Elements 2.0. I'm still blown away by what that stuff can do.
I was actually reminded of these guys when I saw a photo today (somewhere on Wetpixel) of (I suspect) the same eel - because of that same type of fish that is in this photo.
I guess I should introduce myself. I'm Kevin Bryant from Savannah, GA. I've had a fair bit of experience with Nikonos V cameras in the past, but had drifted away from diving as a hobby in recent years. The digital SLR has caused me to take another look. So far, I'm having a blast. Thanks to all from whom I've had the opportunity to learn on Wetpixel.
