Took the kit down to the sports club and did some tests in the pool.
d = distance from dome port to object (all in water, measured with a yard stick)
f = focus distance set by camera
f = 4,7142 x ln(d) + 4,2751
with inverse
d = exp(f - 4,2751 / 4,7142)
The measurements I did were pretty rough and the camera's AF was a bit "random" due to the dimmed lighting (and I forgot to bring my snorkel and mask) but when I plotted the data I saw a relatively good logarithmic fit.
Since the camera cannot focus closer than 20cm nothing can be closer than 30cm from the dome/camera.
For objects very far away the camera will set the focus at roughly 35cm (shouldn’t rely too much on the extreme point of the estimated curve).
Then…
Combining what I learned today with my previous DoF calculations I get:
Zoom to 27mm, set the aperture to 8 and focus at 20cm.
Picture should be sharp from 11cm to 157cm in front of the dome. Can this be correct?
With aperture 5,6 I get 14cm to 82cm.
And with 4: 16cm to 57cm
2,8: 19cm to 45cm
Using the WCON-07C wide angle converter should give me even better DoF.
