I have a ikelite housing for a c80-80 and a substrobe mv( same as the 50 i believe). I also have both types ikelite sync leads.
If I connect the ttl sync lead to the strobe it will only flash when first switch on either manaul or ttl and no more. camera set up as eternal flash slow1.
If i connect the non ttl sync lead to the camera and flash the strobe works but it flashes out of sync with the camera. If I set the camera to slave 1. the flash and camera both work ok but I then the pics are overexposed.
thanks I`am now running out of hair to pull out
Hi and welcome to Wetpixel.
As you've found out, the only flash that will TTL with the Olympus 8080 is the Ikelite DS125 or DS50 - and these use special circuitry in the HOUSING.
The MV will work as a non-TTL strobe, but you can't use a TTL sync cord with it or the camera will "complain."
The pix will be overexposed because the flash only has one power - full. If you turn up your F-stop appropriately (check the chart that came with the strobe) and/or use a strong diffuser on the flash you should be able to make it work, but it's not ideal. Try cutting some out of a milk jug. Start w/ one and then stack two, etc. I believe Ike also makes a 1 stop (makes your strobe 1/2 power) diffuser.

Plus it requires a proprietary sync cord.
Joe
Thanks James
your a star, best start drinking some milk:) and saving for a 125.
Thanks again
Joe,
You mean an Ikelite to Ikelite sync cord??? The MV will work with a regular Ike sync cord if you tape off some pins on the camera hot-shoe I bet.
Now with the DS125's you can use a TTL sync cord - did you mean that it requires a special Ikelite cord made for Olympus TTL? It might, but I dont' think it does - check the Ikelite website for details.
Cheers
James
I have both types of Ikelite to ikelite sync cord. the digital 4103.51( blue band) which will only fire the strobe once on inital switch on. the camera doesn`t see the strobe at all.
The non ttl 4104 ikelite to ikelite snyc cord this will fire the strobe out of sync with the camera with the camera set to external flash set the camera to slave it will fire the strobe in sync with the camera but you lose the ttl function.
Hopefully someone may find this of use when buyiny a new camera thinking your old kit will work with it.
Cheers
Hi James,
Yes, you have clarified my post. That is what I meant to say even though I didn't say it
