hermit crabs on land

  1. Anyone know the scientific/latin name of the hermit crabs typically found on tropical Pacific islands? These seem to be solely on the land, i am not sure if they go in the water or not. If you have ever been to one of these places you will know what i am talking about as they are all over the place.

  2. Hi Mike, they are land hermit crabs, very common as pets these days. It is on the genus Coenobita, but I can't tell which species without a close-up photo. The entire family Coenobitidae is of land crabs, they spend most of their adult life on land but go back to the ocean to reproduce (just like the land crabs).

  3. That are closely related to land sharks :P
