Macro in Venezuela

  1. Hi all,

I am writing from the Caracas airport just to say hello and kill some time before my flight. I had a great time in Isla Margarita. The visibility wasn't great, so I concentrated on macro, and shot exclusively with the 105mm. Here are some that I like:

This first two are full frame, the others are cropped by about 10-15%:

Here is one I had a very hard time to get, these little guys display like this to attract females and intimidate rivals, but the whole display lasts for only 2 seconds:

  2. The really liked the first one :)

And for the last one, you should be able to get 10 shoot of it in those 2 second with the D2x's 5 fps. Or 16 in crop mode, 8 fps. :)

Well, at least if you had some strobe that could handle it

Thanks to advice from this site (and especially from Alex), now I can proudly day that I can see the light. Below is one of the pictures that I am most proud of technically. I think it would be impossible to get such a well exposed image using TTL (well, at least I never got anything like it when I used TTL). This fish is tiny, very hard to photograph, not to mention it is transparent!

Believe me, it looks a lot better in Adobe RGB color space and 4000 pixels wide. I dont even need to collect specimens to count the spines!
