would you recommand shooting 16:9 with the sony vx2000?

If you like the look, why not? Just realize 2 things:
a.If you are converting to DVD, you will have 2 choices:
1. Make it a pan&scan DVD, which automatically changes the aspect ratio and enlarges the pic to fit 4:3, thus losing a portion of the pic and also making any flaws glaringly visible.
2. Put in cinema wide black areas on top and bottom when you render into MPEG2. Some programs also allow auto cinema mode which put the black bands in when you play on a 4:3 TV.
b.You will be losing vertical resolution. The Sony 16:9 is merely an electronic crop and will hack off the top and bottom portions.
It is acceptable quality by BBC standards though, so the stuff I mentioned is a little measurebating. But things to consider.
