1. would you recommand using a redfilter and manual wb in water of max 8 ft also when doing a into the sun shot?
2. wich program/software do you use or recommand when filming 16:9 and then burning it on dvd in 16:9 (I have a 16:9 tv) and 4:3 (for my friends). how do you get the black stripes for the 4:3, with wich software?
3. would you recommand using manual shutterspeed or autoshutterspeed?
thanks
Rob
1: you could probably get away without the filter, but personally i would use it myself and do the manual WB. You should be able to do both and see what the results are. Most housings have controls over swapping back and forth from Manual WB to auto. My Gates has a flip red filter that i can flip in or out of the way.
I think you should try both when you get in the cage and have a look to see what gives you a nicer blue....
2. Ask Dru...
3. Auto should be fine. My default setting is 60 and i rarely change it...
1. With the 12db range of the red filter, with or without filter doesn't matter at 8ft.
2.I'm an Apple guy but have been to smaller production houses where they use programs like Adobe Encore. It use to be that you had to render the clips with the bands but nowadays Encore should handle forcing 16:9 clips to widescreen bands for 4:3 TV. Just know the program well.
3. The only reason imo to fiddle with shutterspeed is for slo-mo sequences to be rendered later. Slower shutter speeds give motion blur on the footage and when rendering at say 1/3 speed, the blur gets blurrer as I have mentioned before. A higher shutter speed will freeze the action more, but will look pretty bad in normal playback but when rendered in slo-mo, will look crisper.
