although not yet digital, I was wondering how people review images.
with slides, i use a loupe and review them on a light box. on the cheap scanner i use, the web-image is not near as brilliant. With digital, you have to review them on a computer screen. Does this meen you have to have a minimal usable computer setup (screen wise and computer power), callibrated screens etc...

I don't care what scanner you have. It never looks as good as a light box and a loupe.

Yes. A good monitor. A program for reviewing (e.g. Nikon View, Phase One, or even Photoshop). Calibration, absolutely.
Whenever you scan you should do some color correction. When you scan to web, there are fewer colors that are taken into consideration. I am not sure of the technical terminology but you will get less vibrant pictures when scanning to web and not correcting. Also, are your images Adobe 1998 or sRGB? The latter is optimized for web use (Not as many colors).
