Is El Nino affecting marine life in the Eastern Pacific?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone heard or dove either Cocos Islands, Galapagos Islands or Socorros Islands since this years 23/24 El Nino weather phenomenon?  I would like to plan a trip to Cocos but would be interested in what the pelagic fish are doing.

It's my understanding that El Nino warmer waters can affect the marine life.

Warmer water means the thermocline runs deeper

This in turn means sharks that cruise on the thermocline line go deeper

So they are there but may end up well beyond recreational dive depth limits unless of course there is a very compelling cleaning station
