  1. Hey all....I have a gap in fall of 26 and I want to hit Magdalena Bay. Any recs on dive companies and timing? Is the liveaboard that much better or could I do something shore based and get a similar experience? I may already be too late for 2026 liveaboards though.

  3. ^^^ Truth.....message sent. Maybe I should have just lead with "Does anybody have something in their closet they don't really use much anymore, but is too good to just get rid of" The amount of stuff I have given away over the years is a little criminal. Best
  4. Thanks. So it sounds like it is hard to go wrong with the 24-50 + WWL-C combo or the 8-15 fish + 140 dome combo....but the z24-50+WWL-C is a bit more versatile? Probably a better "first rig" setup to get my feet wet? To be clear....we are talking about the Z24-50 f/4-6.3 that costs about $450 new correct? Kristian.....I travelled around in Sweden a bit. 2-6 months in Helsingborg, Ostersund, Gotland, Stockholm, Uppsala. Haven't been back yet :( I want to do a month+ long motorcycle trip at some point and hit Sweden and Norway.
  5. Thanks much. Exactly the feedback I'm looking for. 140 + fish eye is my plan. I'm going to Socorro early 2026 and Cocos in 2027. Couple others on the books as well....but those are the ones I want to leave with a great pic from. Hoping to sneak out to Catalina before the Socorro trip to give it a test run. Anywho...thanks a ton. Any extra tips for a total noob bumping from GoPro to a FF rig greatly appreciated. Kristian...where in Sweden are you from? I lived there a couple of years back in the early 90's
  6. Thanks. I actually had a D500 that I gave to my daughter....I just have a hard time buying an underwater rig for a 9 year old camera system. I think my initial path is going to be a 8-15 + the 140mm port.
  7. Thanks all!! Exactly the advice I was looking for. So it sounds like an 8-15 fish + the 140mm dome is a reasonable choice for what I want to shoot.
  8. Great pics. Looks a bit Bonaire-ish. Love that place So I have never really handled a full rig under-water. Am I crazy for just going for a 230mm dome and my z14-24 and seeing how it goes?
  9. Hey...upping my game a bit from GoPro. Have decided against the intermediate step (eg RX100, etc) and think I will just go big and see what happens. For now, my intended subject is large marine life and scenes. I currently have a Z8. My most suitable underwater lens I currently have is the 14-24 F2.8. Any thoughts on that lens? Any better lenses out there for what I want to do? Just trying to keep from spending $$ on something that I use a couple times then switch to something more suitable for my uses. Best
  10. Thanks. Yeah, I agree on the whole "intermediate" step thing being a just more money spent before getting what you really want. Gonna start another thread on Z8 Lens. Thanks!
  11. Hey all...I want to upgrade. Been using GoPro and Insta360 x 3 for a few years now and getting OK-ish results. I have a few sweet trips lined up the next few years (Socorro, Cocos Island, Palau) and want to up my game. I currently have a Nikon Z8 with a few pretty nice lenses. I think the only one that would work underwater would be my z14-24/2.8. I don't have a 24-70...have never really gelled with that range. My goal is large wildlife, expansive shots. I am not super into nudibranchs, sea horses, etc. Think sharks, rays, whales, etc. Any issues with a Z8/14-24 rig for what I am looking to shoot? I would like to avoid another lens if possible. But if Before I go this route....any recommendations for "intermediate step" options? The Z8 route is spendy and if something much cheaper will get me most of the way there, that would be great to explore. Best!
