  1. I'm not sure your budget or goals with respect to this. I saw mention of a trout project but no general overview of what your trying to do - can you point me to the details on this as I am spit-balling without a lot of background on your specific problem? Okay with that said, another approach would be to use some housed small cameras that interface directly (yup I'm talking about some cables) to a small computing device. They could shoot low res video constantly and stream that data to your computing device (if your handy with electronics and coding you could totally DIY this). Then use the computing device to automatically look at the difference between frames, and once you have a threshold delta, anything above that you would call a possible target of interest. At this point you could automatically change from low res video to whatever you wanted and actually keep this data. I know this sounds like a lot of work but I have hacked similar stuff like this together before for various lab experiments and some field data collections (while the budget provided by the sponsor was pretty large we tended to hack stuff together pretty cheaply). If your curious about this approach ping me and we can chat from there.
  2. So I am curious and would love to hear from peeps who have mounted fill size housed DSLRs with dome ports on the front of their DPV. I'm curious about the hydrodynamics, specifically how much the DPV nose wants to pull up and what people have done to eliminate this. I already deal with this issue using a housed TG6 (Olympus housing), backscatter glass dome, and 2 sola video lights. It's annoying for running on cruise control and while I want to put my DSLR & big dome (8.5 inch) on I want to solve the pulling up issue first. DPV wise I use what I would consider a mid size DPV (read as black tip, cuda, genesis, or similar DPV).
  3. Hi everyone! I'm kevin and a wetpixel refugee. LOL, I wondered why I was having problems resetting my password there last fall and now I know! Anyhow about me - started diving in the 94 and started messing around with a camera in a bag in 94. Graduated to an MX-10 (old sea and sea film camera) and shot with it until the early 2000s. Quit diving for a bit but came back to it seriously in 2010ish. I currently dive, freedive, and do some light technical diving. Since the Monterey Bay area is my backyard I get to dive a lot and do a fair amount of travel mostly for big animals but also, i love me some muck. I'll post some photos once I reread the instructions since my attempt moments ago at pasting did not work :( even though it was small (< 200Kb). I shoot video via a tg6 mounted on a scooter and both stills and video via a 5dmk4.
